Q. How
much performance difference is there between petrol and Autogas?
A. There is a small loss of performance that is barely noticeable
but you normally find the engine smoother in delivery.
Q. Where
can I fill up and what happens when I run out of gas, will I be
stranded?
A. You will receive a list of filling stations and the web site
will carry a list of stations nationally that is updated on a
regular basis. If you run out of gas, remember that the conversion
is dual fuel, so you retain a petrol carrying capacity.
Q. Are
there any problems associated with the newest of cars regarding
the sophisticated engine management systems?
A. There are some vehicles that require further modifications
to enable the electronics to read the emissions correctly. Because
Autogas runs very clean and lean, sometimes the Lamda sensors
think that you have a problem. Our electronic expert can solve
these problems.
Q. What
about servicing and maintenance?
A. Additional servicing requirements are minimal and amount to
little more than an annual check of the tank, valves and pipework.
After ten years the Autogas tank requires replacing complete with
the pipework and valves.
Q. Is Autogas
safe?
A. The gas is stored in liquid form and contained in a substantial
cylinder. The cylinder is constructed from a thicker gauge steel
than used on a Landrover Chassis. The Queen and Government Ministers
are quite happy to run the system on their vehicles.
Q. Will
I save money running on Autogas?
A. As soon as you drive away in your converted vehicle you will
be saving about £1.50 per gallon on fuel costs. For example, if
you have a Landrover returning 17mpg and travel 18,000 miles per
annum you would be saving well in excess of £1000 per year on
fuel alone
Q. What
about resale values of a converted car?
A. With the popularity of the conversion, converted cars are in
demand and would attract a higher premium price. You could also
transfer the equipment to another vehicle if you wished as most
of the components are common to the applications.
Q. Do I
need engine modifications to use Autogas?
A. Petrol engines that are suitable for lead-free fuel are normally
suitable for using Autogas. If you intend to convert a vehicle
that only uses 4 star leaded fuel you will need to have the valve
seats replaced, inaddition, some older vehicles may also need
the valves and guides replaced.
Q. Does
Autogas hurt the engine?
A. No, quite the contrary. As the fuel is a gas it mixes better
with air than petrol and you should find that you get far less
wear on the engine when using Autogas. Oil and spark plugs will
also last longer.
